Outside reading (French keyboards suck)

Eisenhower, posed a choice by the War department, had to join the General staff or go to France. He chose ended up choosing the latter (Ambrose 87). The reason he did so was that his wife Mamie wanted to go to France (Although Eisenhower did want the first choice) and that he didn't want to hurt her feelings. I guess personal bonds like this are strong enough to change the decisions one makes. Eisenhower returned in November 1929 to Washington. This time, he was reassigned to managing the new industries in the wake of the Great Depression (Ambrose 88). This shows that someone will be moved from their expertise for the fact that demands of everyone matter need to be met or fixed. Later, he would help set up the Philippine Army, although his work would be for nothing in the end as the Japanese easily destroyed it (105). This shows that people will fight for a cause that might not be successful.

OTWF

"As we watch the film On the Waterfront this week, consider the varying beliefs of the characters when it comes to what the difference is between a traitor and a whistle blower, or a "stool pigeon" and an "informant on criminal activity". In your 2 paragraph blog post, discuss what the characters believe about this question and then discuss what YOU believe about this question. When are you being a 'tattle tale' and when are speaking out against what you believe is improper behavior?"

I believe that, in this instance, what defines being a traitor is being what kind of cause you are doing it for. For example, we view Benedict Arnold as a traitor because he went against the American cause, which is good in our viewpoint. In our viewpoint, we also view the mob as bad, and that anything that compromises the mob would be good. I mean, from the mob's point of view, Terry is a traitor, but we view him as someone that stood up. (Note that I agree with the positive perception)

Also, point of view is the key in such a perception. If you are on the side that is being supported, you praise him. If you are on the other side, where you were betrayed, that defines a traitor. The thing is is that since the mob is bad (our general conception makes that way), we view Terry as an honest person.

Outside reading (Eisenhower)

Eisenhower was a Commanding Officer (CO) during World War I. He achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel at age 28. Eisenhower was twenty-eight years old when World War had ended. Along with the end of the war came the shrink of the army and Eisenhower's rank. He was demoted to captain, but later was promoted to major (Ambrose 67). This is obviously demeaning, as he had earned that rank, but had lost it for no apparent reason. I find this weird and unnecessary. Eisenhower worked with multiple generals that would influence his life, like Fox Conner, John Pershing, Douglas MacArthur, and George C. Marshall (Ambrose 73). MacArthur would be the most influential. So Eisenhower would gain more power and skill as he further progressed until he became a general himself. He made an ethical choice by putting his country first, instead of working specifically for himself. Every decision he would make would be an ethical choice, as he is directing the lives of multiple men.

All My Sons

Joe Keller decides that family outweighs society. "I'm in business; a hundred and twenty cracked, you're out of business; you got a process, the process don't work you're out of business; you don't know how to operate, your stuff is no good; they close you up, they tear up your contracts, what the hell's it to them?... Chris, I did it for you" (69-70). This shows that Joe wanted to keep the business running in order to support his family, despite the defective product. However, Chris has a different viewpoint. "I was dying every day and you were killing my boys and you did it for me... Don't you have a country?" (70). This shows how Chris values society as a whole more than his father's action to keep income flowing.

I believe that working for society is what is more important in this context. Joe should have just bit the bullet and close down his business. In the end, either way he would have lost his business, but in the route he chose, he hurt everyone involved.

Outside reading

Eisenhower was heading to West Point. Most people entering West Point were great athletes or students. Apparently, he seemed to do fine, but one of his roommates found it very hard. When Eisenhower said that other people finished trial easily, the roommate would cry, "It's easy for you" (Ambrose 44). This was just showing how ahead Eisenhower was. He also accepted hazing. However, he himself would not participate in it. Eisenhower built character at West Point. He lived with "Cold rooms in winter, hot ones in summer, plain, unappetizing food, and constant drill in the summer...". I guess this kind of place needs a lot of stamina to go through. In the enter, sports still was an important part of his life. He played football and did other athletic activities. His studies seemed to suffer along with this. I guess that there is a tradeoff. Eisenhower's time at West Point shows the character that this future leader had. He graduated in June 1915.

More Eisenhower

Eisenhower, as a young child, was nicknamed "Little Ike." This reminds me of the political ads involving Ike. Anyway, he would get into a lot of fights as a child. He became proficient on outdoor activities. Dwight became a better outdoors man. He does what he does until he goes to West Point. It seems like for Ike, being outdoors is his only passion. From a young kid to a young adult, he would fight, which would seem useful for his future in the military. Being skilled with the outdoors also seems like it would help one that is working with the military. It looks like Ike has the resources at a young age to put him with an advantage in the military.

Outside Reading: Eisenhower

Eisenhower's background is generic of those that were originally American. The first Generation of Eisenhower's family were Dutch. The family was deeply religious through all generations. The next generation, Jacob Eisenhauer in particular, went through the civil war (none actually fought). David Eisenhower was next, and then Dwight followed.
Dwight lived in a decent background, and eventually joined the military. I'm assuming that Eisenhower's original family left the Netherlands like everyone else: for money and freedom of religion. Also, I find it ironic that Jacob Eisenhauer was a pacifist, while Dwight would grow up to be one of the few men that shaped the 20th century.

[Actual] Blog Picture

THIS is the picture that should be analyzed.

Joe the Plumber

Joe, as you might have heard, is the guy from Ohio that is been mentioned in this Presidential Race. Joe the plumber is now a key part of McCain's campaign. John McCain has referred to him several times, and is using Joe to his advantage. McCain also used this to attack Obama, stating that Obama is flip-flopping to get elected. Of course, I believe this is true. Obama did make a smart remark, saying that McCain was fighting for Joe, the Hedge-Fund Manager. Why is that bad? It earns investors money. Polls are still very close, and soon the elections will begin, so make a smart choice.

I attack Palin (WTF???

This is pretty old, but you may have heard Palin say something around the bounds of this: "Paying taxes is very patriotic." I really disagree with this. I think Palin is stupid because she's... an idiot
Here are some points.
1. Republicans are supposed to get rid of taxes, not support them. Party principalities.
2. Taxes are the exact opposite of American (Well, almost the exact opposite, they're not THAT French). Hmmmm. Why did America fight the Revolutionary War? To beat out the tea-drinking Brits and rid of the Stamp Act, Sugar Act, etc. (Fancy name for taxation)
3. Palin is in a clip, shooting an AK-47. How AMERICAN is an AK-47???

So... still vote for McCain, but keep an eye on Palin (She might be almost as socialist as FDR).

Palin targeted once again by CNN

Note that this article is from CNN.
The Alaskan supreme court ruled that investigation on Sarah Palin about firing her public safety commissioner. The investigation is an attempt by Democrats to sabotage the GOP ticket. CNN states that Palin doesn't willingly go along with the investigation now. That's pretty much the whole story.

Palin Fights Back

Sarah Palin is questioning the ties Barack Obama has. Sarah Palin commented on Obama's ties with William Ayers, a domestic terrorist. Obama "sees America as imperfect enough to work with a domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country." Ayers isn't the only character tied to Obama that Palin is reminding voters about. She also told FOX News contributor William Kristol that she doesn't know why Jeremiah Wright is off limits for discussion. (That lousy excuse of a preacher) The government created HIV to kill black people? Note that we are dealing with these liberals that threaten America as we know it.

Today we fight the liberals

From now on, all my current event posts will come from one area: FOX News
Yep, no more democrats. To summarize this post, I will provide you with a Bill O'Reilly quotes: "Homeless people don't exist." Source: Me watching Fox News.

Edit: I may post CNN stuff, just to show its hidden liberal agenda.

Bl0g QuEst1On #1

Homer does portray women in a sexist fashion. In a dialogue with Athena, Odysseus states, "You are the best at... spinning yarns" (296). This just comes to show that women are portrayed in a domesticated manner. Also, Penelope is portrayed as a helpless woman that has no authority over the suitors. She appears to be the cliche "damsel in distress." Finally, Penelope is supposedly portrayed as one that is dominated by males, which is stereotypical in ancient societies.

Tainted Milk?

Well, this is old news, but China and its milk controversy have caused the death of a second child. Before I present my views, let me try and state everything in China that has been looked down upon everyone everywhere:
Poisoned Dog Food
Poisoned Seafood
Lead-Painted Toys (Poisoned)
Internet Censorship (If you look up Tienanmen Square or Dancing Banana, it will be blocked)Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com
Poisoned Pirated DVD's
And the list goes on...
Anyway, the greed that goes in China in insatiable. To go with the milk scandal, greedy people who want to save a few pennies would water down the milk, then add melamine to make sure the milk passes standards. Melamine is commonly used in coatings and laminates, wood adhesives, fabric coatings, ceiling tiles and flame retardants. Melamine is known to cause kidney stones. China's regulations have been reputedly low and let this happen, with the list above.

Ruined U.S. economy?

Within the past few weeks, the U.S. economy has been going down the hole. The Lehman Brothers have gone bankrupt, Goldman Sachs has taken a big hit, major stock indexes have lost tons of points, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac was taken over by the government etc.
Personally, I believe the economy will further worsen even though the government is implementing a plan to fix this crisis. Stocks will fluctuate, oil and other commodity prices will increase, and the U.S. economy will slow down in my opinion.

My thoughts on Wikipedia

Wikipedia is one of the best sources out there (opinion)!
Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com

Anyway, some people (teachers) believe that Wikipedia is an unacceptable source. I don't mean to question authority, but Wikipedia is quite reliable, as moderators consistently check for spamming, hacking, inaccuracy, etc. It was even compared to Encyclopedia Britannica, and Wikipedia was found to be more concise. So although I think that Wikipedia makes a good source, it's really easy to accidentally plagiarism. To avoid plagiarizing you should take info from the links that are cited on the bottom of the Wikipedia article. The best part is that Wikipedia is 100% free! (No subscriptions, fees, etc.)

Note: I have made it so that clicking on the emoticon (Dancing Banana) will take you directly to Ms. Froehlich's Blog.

Update: Lehman Brothers

I called it. I knew the stock markets would have another downturn after the giant filed bankruptcy. Your stocks will go down further. Stay tuned for more.

Alright the dangerous liberal bias,

Restating from my previous blog: "The liberal media channels (everything but FOX News)have been attacking Sarah Palin/John McCain to give Barack Obama more ground. Think I'm lying? Then explain this fact: On CNN, while Hurricane Ike was ravaging the south, CNN continues to rant about Sarah Palin. While Hurricane Ike was displayed on the bottom captioning, comments about Sarah Palin were taking up most of the TV screen. Here's more bias: Why don't these liberal networks cover Barack Obama's vice president Joe Biden??? (He's boring, no one really cares about him...) But anyway, don't let the subliminal messages of these liberal media networks get to you. Instead, watch something more candid, like Fox News." There is still more Sarah Palin coverage going on, and I haven't really heard anything about the hurricane...

New blog

I sorta forgot the username to my previous blog. This is a blog where you can discuss language arts related material (or pretty much anything, really). Welcome and no spamming. *This blog may have a minimal trace of conservative bias...
